Port Blair, Nov 30: As if the pain and suffering of the general public of North and Middle Andaman was not enough due to the pathetic condition of NH4, now some of the rural roads have also started giving nightmares to Islanders. Sadly there is neither anyone to inspect these roads nor anyone to solve this issue forever. There seems to be zero accountability in Administration and no one seems to bother that people are risking their lives to even travel from one area to another due to pathetic road conditions.
Yesterday a STS Bus loaded with school students headed Diglipur from Pashimsagar via Kishorinagar, got stuck in deep mud and slush in the mid jungle between Pashimsagar and Kishorinagar.
As per information, yesterday 29 Nov 2022 morning STS bus carrying school students and passengers travelling towards Kishorinagar from Pashimsagar, got stuck in big pothole with soupy, slimy mud in mid jungle between Pashimsagar and Kishorinagar when it’s driver lost control over the vehicle.
Mr. Uma Sankar Sarkar Pradhan Gram Panchayat Pashimsagar said that this incident took place yesterday morning and put the school children and many patients including pregnant women in a terrible situation; left with no option, they reportedly walked about 03 KM in jungle area to reach main road to get public transport.
The STS bus was freed in the evening while about 70 school students studying in higher secondary & Senior Secondary schools in Kishorinagar and Diglipur had to face the wrath of the situation. The school students had to wait for about 04:30 hours near
the school and at around 6:45PM one STS Bus was arranged by the STS department and thus the students reached their home when the night descended.
The Pradhan apprised the Chief Secretary and Deputy Commissioner of the dilapidated condition of the road and he also urged them for improvement of the road on priority.
The displeased Uma Sankar also said, “On behalf of villagers we requested our Administration to repair the road within 15 days, otherwise with villagers and students we will resort to protest against the Administration.”
