Port Blair, Nov 22: Expressing his sincere gratitude for the endeavours of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration for improving the quality of school education in the UT, Mr. Y Sajeevan, President A & N Teachers’ Association has written to the Lieutenant Governor of A & N Islands on behalf of the entire teaching fraternity today.
Hailing the A & N Administration, Mr. Y Sajeevan said in his letter that the new dispensations have invigorated the teachers with their farsightedness and pragmatic approach in alleviating the stress levels of a happier teaching and learning environment within the class rooms.
In the letter, the President also invited Lt. Governor’s attention to the fact that there are about 3600 Group ‘B’ Non Gazetted employees in the Education Department serving from Campbell Bay to Diglipur, a large number ,out of whom are posted in remote locations.
Perhaps the Education Department has the largest number of Group ‘B’ Non Gazetted employees. With the Head of the Department (Director of Education) stationed at Port Blair, it is impractical to dispose of all leave applications from such a large community from all over the territory on time.
Any kind of leave over and above 05 days is supposed to be sanctioned by the Head of the Department as per the Order of the A&N Administration referred here in above. Many times, by the time the application reaches the Director, the date from which the leave would have been sought would have already passed.
Ironically, such applications are returned to the employees with the direction to resubmit the same with fresh dates which may no more be required as the events/eventualities would has passed painfully.
There are also occasions when the leave application gets stuck due to communication gaps between the severely over loaded dealing section and the institution to which the teacher is attached to, the letter read.
The President, A & N Teachers’ Association requested the Lieutenant Governor to relax the restriction on number of days of leave for Group ‘B’ Non Gazetted Officers at item no. 04 (ii) for Leave of the said order ‘upto 30 days’ to be with the Head of Office, as the letter read.
