Port Blair, Sept 29: On the issue of Police action on DBRAIT students and their struggle, an open meeting of all associations and social organisations working in Andaman and Nicobar islands was held at Netaji Club this afternoon, which was attended by a large number of people from different walks of life.
During the meeting a delegation was formed which called on the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration at the Secretariat. The delegation consisted of Mr. Rakesh Pal Govind from LBA, Mr. Abdul Siddique from Andaman Moplah Service Organisation, Vishal Jolly from BJP, Mr. Aziz-ul- Rahman, SVC, PBMC, Mr. Dhanashekhar from RJD, two students of DBRAIT and few others.
During the meeting the Chief Secretary reportedly gave very possible assurances to the delegation in this entire issue after which the AMSO and LBA association decided not to support any Bandh tomorrow and to support the students of DBRAIT in every peaceful protest.
According to a member of the delegation, some of the crucial assurances of the Chief Secretary was to solve this entire issue shortly to safeguard the future of DBRAIT students. The Chief Secretary reportedly assured that things are moving in the right direction and if time is given the matter will be resolved. The Chief Secretary reportedly mentioned a four member high level committee of IAS officers will be formed and students or any supporters of the students can come and meet the committee anytime to clarify any doubt or confusion. The delegation was informed that the Administration is minutely dealing with this complex issue and is expecting a fruitful result. Regarding police action the Chief Secretary reportedly assured to conduct a Magisterial Inquiry in this regard.
The Delegation members told Andaman Sheekha Daily that they were highly impressed with the positive attitude of the present Chief Secretary.
