Diglipur, Sept. 26: A Community Interaction Program for the fishing community of Smith Island was conducted by Coast Guard District Headquarter-9 (DHQ-9), Aerial Bay Diglipur yesterday. During the session, the fishermen were educated on the safety aspects while operating at sea, importance of adherence to weather warnings, use of Coast Guard toll free helpline no. 1554 for seeking assistance for search and rescue at sea.
A Medical Camp was also organized in conjunction with the said event wherein doctors from Community Health Centre, Diglipur along with the doctors of CG (DHQ-9) provided free consultation, diagnosis and treatment to the patients to bring health awareness to the community that has less access to health care services. An oral cancer screening was also undertaken in the camp. Patients requiring further treatment were referred to CHC, Diglipur, a source from CHC, Diglipur said.
