Port Blair, Sep 18: A cleanliness drive was conducted at BambooflatJetty on 17th September 2022 by PRI members of Gram panchayats Shorepoint, Bambooflat 1, Bambooflat 2 and Hopetown. Firstly, Ms. V. K. Mariyam Bibi, Zilla Parishad Member, Bambooflat and Pradhans of various Gram panchayat requested the shopkeepers, fish sellers, and vendors to inform the people to not litter the waste in open places as dustbins are provided everywhere and it is collected by the panchayat sanitation workers daily.
Secondly, they went to clean the seashore despite the rainy weather. They collected plastics, glass bottles, clothes and wood in huge quantities and sent them to the waste processing clusters for further disposal. The motive of the drive is to create awareness among people about cleanliness, to protect ourselves from diseases and also to provide a good impression to the tourists visiting our Islands.
