Port Blair, Sep 12: Andaman & Nicobar Vidyut Shramik Sangh requested the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration fill up the Vacant Posts in Electricity Department.
In a letter, Mr. N. Peddiraju, State President, ANVSS mentioned that in Electricity Department around 1400 posts are lying vacant out of the total post of 3024, i.e., around 45% of the total sanctioned strength.
He stated that every month around 10-20 employees are getting retired and the strength of the department is depleting day by day resulting in the reduction of the workforce.
He also mentioned that several recruitments were made on Current Duty Charges (CDC) basis. As CDC is not counted for their eligibility for promotion since they are not appointed on regular basis. Moreover, these CDCs hold two posts i.e., the CDC Promotion Post and the Regular Post.
Furthermore, he mentioned that a few employees have lost their lives and some got bedridden in service due to electrical accidents, therefore, job preferences can be given to their family members on humanitarian grounds for the livelihood of their family.
Therefore, Mr. N. Peddiraju requested the Chief Secretary to look into the miserable condition of the Electricity Department in A&N Islands and take necessary direction to the concerned officials to fill up all the vacant posts on a war footing.
