Port Blair, Sep 05: DravidaMunnetraKazhagam(DMK), A&N State Committee has requested the Government of India for their intervention in resolving the volatile issue of student protest in DBRAIT, A&N Islands.
In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister of India, Home Minister of India and Minister of Education, Mr. A.L. Kulandai, State Organizer, DMK, A&N State Committee alleged that Dr.Utpal Sharma, Principal, DBRAIT has constantly manipulated the system over the years and changed the affiliations of DBRAIT several times according to his own convenience.
He stated that now the Principal DBRAIT is trying to make the college a Deemed University which will not be beneficial for the students and quality of education in the Islands.
Therefore, regarding the student protest and allegation against Dr.Utpal Sharma, Principal, DBRAIT, DMK A&N State Committee has requested GoI to split the two Polytechnics and shift one Polytechnic to North & Middle Andaman as originally sanctioned and separate management should be appointed for both; Dr.Utpal Sharma should be relieved of all charges and enquiry against irregularities must be conducted; Suitable replacement from amongst the UPSC selected faculty members may be appointed as Principal of DBRAIT; Financial irregularities as flagged by the Central Audit should be investigated and Dr.Utpal Sharma should be brought to book under relevant sections of IPC for corruption; Students victimized due to the selfish acts of Dr.Utpal Sharma should be compensated suitably by granting them additional three years of age relaxation whenever they apply for jobs under the Administration.
