Port Blair, Sep 05: The Andaman Public Work Department of Rangat is reportedly facing the problem of shortage of Labourers in the Maintenance and Water Section due to which efficiency of work is hampered in the area.
It is reported that several labourers were shifted to other departments like Electricity, Disaster Management as well as revenue Department and now there is a severe shortage of Labourers in the maintenance and water section of APWD Rangat.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted a Senior Officer of Rangat APWD Department, he accepted the issue of labour shortage and said that the APWD Rangat has intimated the problem to A&N Administration several times.
The officer further said that the department has only three to four Labourers in some sections which creates difficulties during any emergency work and even simple tasks of any kind, take much longer time to complete.
“Due to the shortage of labourers several important works are delayed and the existing staff has to work overtime to compensate for all the pending works in the area”, the officer added.
