Port Blair, Sep 01: Mr. Jimut Bahan Biswas, Hon’ble Special Judge under POCSO Act, Mayabunder has convicted one accused person namely Krishna Mohan Das, R/o Aerial Bay under PS Diglipur and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for ten years for the offence punishable under section 4 of POCSO Act, 2012 and also to pay fine of Rs. 1,00,000/- (rupees one lakh), out of which ninety percent amount is to be paid to the victim girl as compensation u/s. 357 of CrPC, in default of payment which convict will have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for one year more.
A case under POCSO Act was registered in the Police Station, Billiground vide FIR No. 13 of 2022, dated 28/06/2022 on the basis of a recorded statement lodged by the victim girl. This is a custodial trial case wherein the prosecution has sufficiently proved the case against the accused person.
For the rehabilitation of the victim girl, an amount of Rs. 3,00,000/- (rupees three lakhs) has been awarded as compensation as per provision of 357A of CrPC from the Victim Compensation Fund.
The entire case was investigated by WSI Agnes Bartholoma with the guidance of SI Madhab Halder, SHO, PS Billiground and Inspector Usman Ali, SHO, PS Mayabunder under the supervision of Mrs. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, N & M Andaman District. The prosecution case was conducted by Mr. Keshab Chandra Mondal. learned Special Public Prosecutor (POCSO Act), Mayabunder.
