Port Blair, Aug 30: Last week the Islanders of Katchal Island of Nancowry Group of Islands witnessed a dreadful situation as the Katchal unit of the Electricity Department had announced heavy power cuts due to a shortage of Diesel.
It was further reported that due to the shortage of fuel, the Electricity Department with the help of District Administration Nicobar arranged the HSD Oil from the ANIIDCO unit of Katchal to avoid extra long power cuts.
A source in the Electricity Department has informed Andaman Sheekha Daily that the Katchal Electricity Department has requested the A&N Administration to supply diesel as soon as possible.
As per information, the Albatross cargo ship carrying 60KL for Katchal, 36 KL for Terassa and 12KL for Chowra Islands has already sailed to Southern Group via Hut Bay. The cargo vessel will sail today evening (30th August 2022) from Hut Bay and if the weather conditions are favourable, the ship will reach Katchal in two days. Immediately after reaching, the HSD Oil will be supplied to the Electricity department in Katchal, Terassa and Kamorta.
