Port Blair, Aug 26: A Dhanikhadi Dam main water pipeline betweenGaracharma and Sippighatbusted on 23rd August 2022 leading to water supply problems in various parts of the municipal areas vizAustinabad, Prothrapur, Pathergudda, New Pahargaon, Dollygunj and AtamPahad along with adjoining areas.
According to some eyewitnesses, there was a sudden pipe burst resulting in heavy water loss but subsequently, the APWD staff reached the spot and stopped the water supply, and later repair work was started. By the night of 25th August 2022, the line was repaired and the water supply was started.
But according to the reports, there was another pipeline burst sometime later and the reason behind the incident is assumed to be high pressure in the pipeline. Further, APWD staffs began repair work and by the morning of 26th August 2022, the line was restored.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted Mrs. KavitaUdaya Kumar, Chairman, PBMC, she informed that the pipeline was repaired but due to frequent power cuts water pumping system was affected and water was not supplied to all the affected areas. She assured that by tomorrow the water supply will be regular in all the affected areas of Port Blair city.
