Port Blair, Dec 02: In contravention of recent direction of Lt. Governor people are still dumping the construction material on main roads causing immense inconvenience to the pedestrians and motorists while many term it as a traffic-hazard.
On May 10, 2012 the Lt Governor of A & N Islands had directed the Secretary, PBMC and DC (SA) to take strict action against those people including Govt. departments who carelessly dump and store construction material on roads thus encroaching upon road space. Reports are being received that some contractors dump construction material carelessly on the road space and leave the construction equipment and trucks on road causing great inconvenience to the road users and vehicular traffic.
The orders of Lt. Governor, however, have been clearly violated.
Still in every corner of Port Blair city one can see construction materials dumped by private parties and contractors, which causes obstacle for road users.
“As there is virtually no check from the side of PBMC, people openly dump construction materials on road and block roads,” said a resident of Phoenix Bay.
Hope some day the Secretary of PBMC will bring out sometime from his busy schedule and conduct a surprise visit of city roads to see how LG’s orders are openly violated in Andaman.
