Diglipur, July 19: A ceremonial Plantation program was held in the premises of Vivekananda Stadium followed by a formal function at Forest Club, Diglipur. Dr.Satyendra Singh Dursawat, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, N & M Andaman was the Chief Guest on this occasion and the event was attended by PRI members, Govt. Officials, School Students, Teachers and other stakeholders.
The aim of EACH 1 PLANT 1 program is to make islands self reliant in fruit production and also to attain nutritional security.
This program is the 2nd stage of “Community Seed Programme” wherein various citizens of ANI have donated fruit seeds, which have been grown in Forests Nursery over the time and now are ready for plantation. Apart from this, the majority of the seeds have been procured from the mainland and seedlings have been raised. Sufficient seedlings are available with the Forest dept. as on date.
Under this programme, every citizen shall be provided with at least 1 plant for plantation in his household by the Forest Dept. with the coordination of the PRI members. The programme has commenced on 15th July and shall culminate with 75th Independence Day Anniversary on 15th August, 2022. Besides, fruit seedlings shall be provided to all Govt. Depts./Institutions/Corporations and also on community lands and road side.
Each household has been mapped and a plant distribution and plantation programme under this month-long activity has commenced with. The Forest Department urges people to join this mega plantation drive and make a fruitful future, Official sources said.
