Port Blair, Jul 14: Coast Guard Station at Mayabunder under the aegis of Andaman and Nicobar Command conducted a Community Interaction Programme (CIP) on 12th July 2022 for the fisherman of Betapur village.
The programme was conducted at Betapur community hall in conjunction with the Fisheries Department, local administration and Gram Panchayat. The focus was drawn on the precautions required to adhere during inclement weather, safety aspects while operating at sea and contributions expected from the community towards coastal security.
The fishing folks were also briefed regarding the usage of basic life-saving appliances viz life jackets, life buoys, Distress Alert Transponder (DAT) and SOS procedures for seeking assistance during distress. Special emphasis was paid to the usage of toll-free No. ‘1554’ for seeking Coast Guard assistance for ‘Search and Rescue at sea.
Further, lectures on Snakebite and basic life support were delivered to fishermen by Station Medical Officer. On completion of the programme, basic first aid medicines were distributed free of cost to the fishermen.
