Port Blair, Jul 13: As a part of the “HarGharTiranga” Campaign in connection with AzadiKaAmritMahotsav the Port Blair Municipal Council has organized “AzadiKaCharcha” at Cellular Jail on 13th July 2022.
Mrs. KavithaUdhaya Kumar, Chairperson, PBMC was the Chief Guest and Mr. AzizurRehman, Sr.Vice Chairperson, PBMC was the Guest of Honour at the programme.
To commemorate 75 years of Independence of our nation, and celebrate this auspicious occasion, the PBMC has felicitated family members of Freedom fighters in presence of officials of PBMC, the general public, tourists, etc. The programme started with a patriotic song by Mr. Nawaz, a well-known singer of A&N Islands.
Mr. Swaran Singh and Mr. Mangat Ram, Grandsons of freedom fighters have delivered a speech on the struggles of Freedom fighters and their journey in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. They also delivered the messages of Freedom struggles in the form of Poems.
Dr. RVR Murthy, Associate professor, JNRM delivered a lecture on the History of Cellular Jail then and now, he exhorted that Cellular Jail, the Indian bastille of the pre-Independence, now, stands sanctified as the symbol of India’s struggle for freedom. Freedom Fighters and rebels were chained and punished in inhuman ways by the British. The Bastille stands today as a mute witness to the blessed memory of those gallant freedom fighters who made supreme sacrifices for the sake of the motherland.
While speaking on the occasion Mr. AzizurRehman, Sr.Vice Chairperson, PBMC iterates that the Indian freedom struggle has great importance in the history of India. The people of entire India fought a lot to get the country free from the British. For the sake of freedom, our great freedom fighters sacrificed their lives. Cellular Jail was the most dreaded prison during the British Regime.
