Port Blair, Jul 11: The residents of Kadamtala faced immense difficulties due to the long power cuts in the area over the last two days.
According to villagers, several complaints were lodged to the Electricity Department but the power issue remained unresolved for two long days.
In this regard, a resident of Kadamtala told Andaman Sheekha Daily that it took two days to solve the power outage issue in the Kadamtala region by the Electricity Department, which shouldn’t have happened.
“We understand that bad weather conditions play a huge role in such cases but two days responding time is unacceptable”, he added.
When Andaman Sheekha daily contacted an Officer of the Kadamtala Electricity Department, it was informed that Kadamtala is facing electricity problems due to high wind speed and heavy rainfall.
“We received many complaints and information about trees and branches falling on electric lines and snapping of the power lines”, the officer said.
The officer informed that a huge Tree fell on LT lines at Broom Valley, Ward no. 01, a tree fell on LT lines at PHC Santanu Kadamtala, and a huge Tree fell on HT and LT lines at Khesrai Dera, near Phool tala.
A huge tree branch fell on HT and LT lines near BSNL exchange Uttara and Tree branch fell on HT lines between Gandhi Ghat and Adazig.
“Yesterday there was a fire at Kadamtala Bazaar transformer, so the ABS of the transformer was cut off and the fire was extinguished by the fire brigade Kadamtala. Our staffs are working round the clock on the field and we are doing our best to solve the problem as soon as possible”, the officer added.
The Kadamtala Electricity Department doesn’t have sufficient equipment like big-size ladders and other equipment. There are also several branches of huge trees left to clear which can disturb the line in the heavy wind which can only be done by an expert team. The matter was already reported to the Electricity Department, Port Blair and District Administration.
Meanwhile, villagers of the area alleged that shortage of manpower at the site office of Kadamtala is the main reason behind this power outages.
