Port Blair, May 24: Several Tour Operators have raised concern over the miserable condition of the floating Jetty of Shaheed Dweep, placed for the tourists at Bharatpur Beach. At present the floating jetty is in a pathetic shape due to non-maintenance by the concerned department. The damaged jetty has now become a potential threat for visiting tourists, people alleged.
A local tour operator told Andaman Sheekha Daily that the floating Jetty is the only option for tourists to reach small dinghies for various water sports activities during low tides, but it has no railing and it has also suffered damages in several places, which can cause serious injuries to the tourists.
Earlier, when contacted a Senior Officer of ALHW told Andaman Sheekha said that in last year’s cyclonic weather the Floating jetty suffered heavy damages due to high winds and massive waves.
He further informed that the IP&T Department has noted the issue and the repair work for the floating jetty will commence immediately as soon as they get any direction from the department.
When Andaman Sheekha Daily asked a senior officer of the Tourism Department, he replied that the Department will review the status of the floating jetty and decide whether it can be repaired or replacement has to be done.
“The work will commence according to the review report, and the issue will be rectified as soon as possible,” he said.
