Port Blair, Jun 10: Mr. M.T. Musthafa, President, Island Protection Forum has requested the Lt. Governor, A&N Administration to provide vehicles for transportation of dead bodies from Port Blair to North & Middle Andaman District.
In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, Mr. Musthafa mentioned that the general public is facing difficulties in the transportation of dead bodies from Port Blair to the North & Middle Andaman District. Initially, the PBMC was providing vehicles 24X7 for transportation of the dead bodies from Port Blair to any place in the North & Middle Andaman District at a minimal rate. But suddenly the transportation services were discontinued for the last 09 months without any alternate arrangements, due to which the local public of North & Middle Andaman are facing a lot of difficulties in transportation of the dead bodies to their place.
He also stated that the patients are provided with Govt Hospital vehicle to GB Pant Hospital when referred from interisland to G B Pant but after the death of the same, none of the institutes provide any vehicle for transportation of the dead body back to their residence. Now the relatives of the deceased have to arrange vehicles themselves at higher market rates.
The IPF President mentioned that the PBMC office has informed that the transportation services are stopped due to the non-availability of breakdown services in the N&M Andaman region. As the breakdown repair equipment and manpower have to be brought from Port Blair.
Therefore, Mr. Musthafa requested Lt. Governor, A&N Islands to direct the concerned department to provide breakdown services in the N&M Andaman region for PBMC vehicles and also suggested that A&N Administration may withdraw the vehicle charges for transportation of dead bodies to inter Islands.
