Port Blair, Nov 25: Reacting to Andaman Sheekha news “Illegal parking infront of Cellular Jail; a nightmare for serious patients” published on Nov 19, 2012, the Dy.S.P of Traffic Police, Mr. N Rasheed told this reporter that acute shortage of Parking Place in Port Blair city is resulting in Traffic Jam infront at Cellular Jail Junction, which is the main entry point to Islands’ lone referral hospital G B Pant.
On Nov 19, 2012, Andaman Sheekha had published that at the evening hours, the road remains blocked with vehicles of tour operators and serious patient find it difficult to enter the Hospital, even vehicles carrying serious patient do not get a clear passage.
When Andaman Sheekha approached the Dy.S.P Traffic, Mr. N Rasheed for a comment he said that shifting the parking place of tour operators is difficult because there is shortage of parking places in city.
“We are on the process of constructing more and more Parking Places in city so that this problem is solved for once and ever. For now we have our traffic Jawans to tackle such situations on priority,” the Dy.S.P Said. As an advise the Dy.S.P Suggested public to use the other road (through Sea Shore) to enter G B Pant while bringing serious patient.
The advisory to use the other road (through sea shore) need to be taken with caution, because the other gate remains locked most of the time. There is a security cabin adjacent the gate, but security guards are either not posted there, or they engage themselves away from their duty post.
If the GB Panth authorities are reading this comment, they must spare effort to see to it that the guard is available at the duty post to open the gate.
