
Port Blair, May 30: The Commissioner of Food Safety (CFS)/Dy. Commissioner, South Andaman(DC, SA) Mr. Suneel Anchipakka, IAS inaugurated a five-day refresher training programme to be held from 30th May 2022 to 3rd June 2022 at the Conference Hall of the Department of Industries, Port Blair.
The refresher training was organized by the Food Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), New Delhi in coordination with the Department of Food Safety, A&N Administration. The Commissioner of Food Safety, A&N Islands was the Chief Guest of the inaugural function and the function was graced by the Joint Commissioner (FS)/ADM and Sub-Divisional Magistrate, South Andaman.
The training programme commenced with the lighting of traditional lamps by the CFS, A&N Islands and other dignitaries. The Food Safety Officers from the states of Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and A&N Islands are participating in the refresher training programme.
The Commissioner of Food Safety/DC, SA in his inaugural address greeted the participants and emphasized the intrinsic linkage between food safety and tourism in the islands, which is the backbone of the economy of islands. The food safety department should develop the faith and confidence among the citizens by ensuring the availability of safe, wholesome and hygienic food to the consumers. The Commissioner of Food Safety, also reiterated that food safety also plays a pivotal role during the visits of VVIPs by providing food safety coverage. The resource personnel from FSSAI, New Delhi will be imparting refresher training over the latest Rules, Regulations and Amendments of the Food Safety Act’2006.
The Commissioner, Food Safety, A&N Islands urged the participants to take advantage of the training to improve their work efficiencies and stressed the importance of such periodic training to keep the stakeholders updated about the Act, Rules and Regulations for ensuring food safety in the islands and the country as a whole.
