Port Blair, May 11: An exclusive discussion was held with Mr. Jalaj Bose, Executive Engineer Electricity Department Middle Andaman and Dr. P.K. Mandal, State General Secretary, Kissan Morcha, A&N Islands and in charge of Mayabunder District at his office Rangat Bay.
Dr. Mandal highlighted that how a large portion of the Middle Andaman region that is from Betapur to Nimbudera is facing indiscriminate power cuts these days.
Dr. Mandal urged the EE to take necessary steps to bring an end to these difficulties of the region as early as possible.
Executive Engineer Mr. Jalaj Bose very patiently heard the grievances and assured to resolve all those difficulties raised by Dr. Mandal as early as possible. In this connection, EE directed the Assistant Engineer, Mayabunder to conduct a physical inspection of affected areas and resolve the problems at his earliest.
Besides this, the Executive Engineer mentioned that the Department itself is facing numerous difficulties which are ultimately resulting in suffering of the public.
He said that since a long time no regular appointment of labourers, linemen and readers has been done and on the other hand every year several old and senior staffs are going on superannuation and therefore there is a shortage of manpower. Therefore, it becomes very difficult to respond to every call regarding power disruption.
He further added that in all the site-offices there are no departmental vehicles and it also creates difficulties in responding swiftly.
During this meeting Mrs. Mamta Biswas, Up-Pradhan, Mr. Prasenjit Mondal, PRI Member, Harinager Gram Panchayat and Mr. Sukharanjan Mridha, a villager, were also present with Dr. Mandal.
