Diglipur, March 29: The election of Pramukh and Up-Pramukh for Diglipur Panchayat Samiti was held at Diglipur Panchayat Samiti Bhavan today.
Prior to election, Smti Anjali Sehrawat, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman held a meeting with the elected Samiti Members in the Conference Hall of the Panchayat Samiti Office. Thereafter she started the election process assisted by the Election In-Charge, N & M Andaman. Mr. Dipankar Mistry (Gandhinagar Constituency) and Mr. Biswajit Bairagi (R.K. Gram Constituency) from the BJP filed the nominations for Pramukh and Up-Pramukh respectively while from INC, Mr. Ramkrishna Bairagi (Sitanagar constituency) and K.Karuppaiah (Diglipur constituency) filed nominations for Pramukh and Up-Pramukh. Secret ballot papers were used in the election. After counting of votes, the Deputy Commissioner declared Mr. Dipankar Mistry as the Pramukh, Diglipur who got 10 votes against his opponent INC candidate Mr. Ramkrishna Bairagi who secured 5 votes. Mr. Biswajit Bairagi who got 9 votes was declared as Up-Pramukh against his opposite contestant K.Karuppaiah who managed to get 6 votes.
Out of 15 Samiti Constituencies, the BJP had won in eight constituencies, INC six and one seat was held by an Independent candidate.
Mr. Dipankar Mistry thus emerged victorious as the Pramukh while Mr. Biswajit Bairagi became the Up-Pramukh of Diglipur Panchayat Samiti for a term of 5 years.
After the election, the Deputy Commissioner administered the oath to Mr. Dipankar Mistry as the Pramukh and to Mr. Biswajit Bairagi as the Up-Pramukh and ultimately to the rest other elected Samiti members in presence of Mr. Ankit Yadav (IAS), Assistant Commissioner, Diglipur, Mr. Mahen Roy, Tehsildar and Rajendra Kumar, BDO, Diglipur.
Amidst a tight and excellent security arrangement by the local police, the election of Pramukh and Up-Pramukh for Diglipur Panchayat Samiti was held in a peaceful atmosphere.
Mr. Ajay Baragi, BJP State President, A & N Islands and Mr. Vishal Jolly, Ex- State President, BJP A & N Islands who visited Diglipur also became a part of BJP’s victory as the Pramukh and Up-Pramukh. They greeted the newly elected Pramukh and Up-Pramukh with garlands and congratulated them.
The ceremony came to a conclusion with the vote of thanks by the BDO who congratulated the Pramukh and all elected Samiti Members and wished them a successful tenure, a source said.
