Port Blair, Nov 21: The Lt. Governor of A&N islands Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM wlll inaugurate the A&N State Data Centre established at the premises of Dr. B.R Ambedkar Institute of Technology on 22nd November 2012 at 10.00 am.
This will be followed by launch of Employment Exchange Mission Mode Project, mobile Governance initiative for Electricity Billing & Payment and Rollout of 12 CSCs in rural parts of South Andaman area by Hon’ble LG in a function to be held at the Dr. BRAIT Auditorium, Port Blair.
SDC has been identified as one of the important element of the core infrastructure for supporting e-Governance initiatives of National e-Governance Plan (NeGP). State Data Center (SDC) will consolidate services, applications and infrastructure to provide efficient electronic delivery of Government to Government (G2G), Government to Citizen (G2C) and Government to Business (G2B) services. The state-of-the-art State Data Centre established at DBRAIT is equipped with complete redundancy and all set to power the state government’s technology initiatives for better governance and citizen services.
SDC would also provide many key functionalities such as Central Repository of the State, Secure Data Storage, Online Delivery of Services, Citizen Information/Services Portal, State Intranet Portal, Disaster Recovery, Remote Management and Service Integration etc. to ensure better operation & management control with minimal cost of Data Management, IT Resource Management, Deployment and other costs.
Department of Information Technology, A&N Administration in collaboration with Society for Promotion of Vocational and Technical, Education (SOVTECH), A&N Islands which is the State Designated Nodal Agency for implementation of NeGP in A&N Islands has selected Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) as a partner to set up Tier – II State Data Center at the Campus of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DBRAIT), Port Blair at the total cost of Rs 14.20 crores which includes 5 years of Operations and Maintenance. The Agreement was executed between SOVTECH and TCS Ltd. on 12th May, 2011.
With the inauguration of ANSDC, five Application viz. Employment Enrolment, Electricity Billing & Payment, CSC Portal, Land Records and Birth & Death Registration System will also be migrated to SDC for access by departments and Common Service Centres.
