Port Blair, Nov 21: The XVI State School Games-2012 Sporting extravaganza being organized by the Directorate of Education, A&N Administration, was today flagged off by the First Lady of the Islands, Smt Bhawanee Singh by lighting the sports torch in presence of the Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM at a function held at Raj Niwas in the morning. About 1500 students and 500 officials from different zones of the Islands are taking part in the sports event, which is being held at Netaji Sports Complex, Port Blair from 21st to 25th November 2012.
While interacting with the sportspersons, the Lt Governor and the First Lady welcomed all the participants and expressed the hope that the sports event will help the sportspersons of the Islands in touching new heights. The Lt Governor also appealed them to play the game with zeal and enthusiasm as the sports event will go a long way in boosting the moral of the young talent.
The sports torch was carried by the State, National and International sportspersons and school children of the Islands crossing the city roads and culminating at Netaji Stadium where the sports event is being held.
