Diglipur, March 20: With the early warning of ASANI cyclone for A & N Islands, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), as a part of proactive measures, has mobilized adequate resources & self-contained rescue & relief teams in the likely affected coastal and low lying areas under Diglipur Tehsil.
The NDRF teams and the local police teams under the guidance and supervision of Mr. Ankit Yadav (IAS), Assistant Commissioner, Diglipur cleared 12 accident prone trees, most of which are dead and dried ones.
Local Police and EOC Diglipur is on 24×7 alert where Satellite Phones have been installed to send and receive emergency calls. The NDRF teams equipped with various advance equipment & tools needed for pre and post cyclone operation are keeping close watch over the development of the situation in close coordination with the local police and administration.
As per the IMD inputs, the cyclonic storm is expected to hit N & M Andaman around afternoon/evening tomorrow.
Taking a proactive step, the residents from Purana Dera, Naya Dera and area near LCT Hard jetty, Durgapur which are coastal areas in Durgapur have been evacuated to Govt. Middle School, Durgapur where they will be given food and night shelter. About 152 people are in this relief camp and GP Shibpur, SHGs and the Civil Supply Dept., Diglipur are working in coordination and arranging the foods for these people, a source said.
The Assistant Commissioner is personally monitoring the situation and all efforts are being made to ensure zero casualty and minimum damage to life and property.
