Port Blair, Mar 13: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chief General Manager of BSNL, Andaman and Nicobar Circle to sanction a mobile tower for Flat Bay, Bolcha, Bengali Basti and Ranchi Basti villages of Baratang Islands so that these villages get proper mobile network and internet connectivity, which will ensure a better and safe future for these villagers.
In a letter addressed to the CGM, BSNL A & N Circle, the Member of Parliament mentioned that there is zero mobile network coverage in Flat Bay, Bolcha, Bengali Basti and Ranchi Basti villages of Baratang Island.
He added that due to non availability of mobile network and internet facility the students of these villages are suffering heavily and during the time of pandemic, the students had faced a lot of difficulties in online education. Not only this, youths of these areas are unable to read about vacancies in various departments and also are unable to apply online for these jobs, he mentioned.
The Member of Parliament further added that the villagers have further informed him that due to non-availability of mobile network during the time of emergencies like fire or serious medical cases, they are unable to contact the Fire Brigade of PHC Baratang for help on time.
