Port Blair, Mar 11: Huge traffic jam was witnessed at Dairy Farm to Bathubasti road after pipeline repair work began early this morning.
According to the information received, since this morning the repair work of an old water pipeline, situated near Anand Paradise Theater, School Line started after a major leakage was reported in the water pipeline.
The repair work almost covered a major part of the road due to digging of the road by APWD workers, which caused the traffic jam.
As per details only one vehicle was allowed to move at a time and the slow movement of vehicles resulted in huge traffic jam. Meanwhile many families living in Dairy Farm and Bathubasti areas complained that today there was no water supply in their area due to this repair work.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted, Mr. Arun Kumar, Executive Engineer PHED, said that last night at around 08:00 PM they got the information about a major leakage in the pipeline due to which immediate action was taken.
“However there were altogether three pipelines due to which our team couldn’t identify which pipeline was leaking and hence all three pipelines were closed all night which resulted in water scarcity in some areas. Later by morning 06:00 AM the leakage was identified, and we found that major damage has been developed in one pipeline, which needed immediate replacement,” he added.
“We knew that traffic jams may occur for which we had already informed traffic police in advance after which the work started in the morning,” he said.
Our team managed to restore the pipelines by 04:00 PM and the water supply connection was also restored immediately after that. There should not be any such scarcity of water in the coming days, he added.
