
Port Blair, Feb 16: In memory of Late Dr. T.C. Khatri, Former HOD Zoology, JNRM and popularly known as Butterfly Man of Islands, the 5th Dr. T.C. Khatri Memorial Lecture (Hybrid mode) was organized by The Nature Club, Department of Zoology, JNRM on 15th February 2022.
The topic was Butterflies Diversity in Central India and its Conservation. The main speaker was Dr. Pragya Srivastava, Professor in Life Science, Rabindranath Tagore University, Bhopal (M.P.). She talked about detailed aspects of the rich biodiversity of diurnal lepidopteran fauna and its conservation. She mentioned the threat and conservation methods to recover the faunal diversity of the most beautiful insects.
Dr. H. K. Sharma, Principal JNRM, inaugurated the Webinar and congratulated the organizers. Special Guest Dr. K.K. Sharma joined the Webinar through Google meet from Ajmer, Rajasthan. He was academically associated with Dr. Khatri and worked together.
Dr. Manju Nair and Dr. DiponSharmah also shared their experiences with Dr. Khatri and mentioned that A&N Islands are one of the hotspots of global diversity.
Addressing the audience Dr. V. K. Sahu, Assistant Professor Zoology and convener of the program highlighted the importance of protecting butterfly fauna.
The Guest of Honour Ms. Pearl Devdas, HoD Geography, JNRM concluded the special lecture and recalled the memories with Dr. Khatri and motivated the students for higher studies and research.
The Butterflies collection of Dr. Khatri was exhibited at the lecture gallery. Participants from different Departments of JNRM, other states, and family members of Dr. T. C. Khatri attended the Webinar.
