Port Blair, Feb 15: Of late the Veer Savarkar Park of Chouldari Village of South Andaman has become very popular among local residents. For residents of South Andaman region the Veer Savarkar Park has become a one of the favourite places for evening walk and a place to spend some time with family members.
But visitors complain that the wooden Jetty constructed in one portion of the Veer Savarkar Park has become a death trap and may lead to a major accident in the coming days.
The wooden floor of the Jetty is completely damaged and wooden planks have fallen apart but even though often visiting people try to walk on the jetty, taking huge risks, just to click good photographs for social media.
The Jetty is neither closed for visitors nor has any signboard been placed to advise people to refrain from walking over it.
Visitors are now requesting the Tourism Department to take precautionary measures to avert any possible accident or to repair the jetty at the earliest.
When Andaman Sheekha Daily contacted the Director of Tourism, T Mr. Alok Kumar said that the department is unaware of the problem. However, he assured to enquire about the matter and take necessary steps.
