Port Blair, Feb 11: Hours after the last date for filing nomination papers for the panchayat polls, the Congress candidates of Stewardgunj were declared “elected unopposed” for the seats of Panchayat Pradhan, Panchayat Samiti Member, and Panchayat Ward Members without any contest. The Opposition parties including the BJP failed to put up any candidate in the Stewardgunj constituency, as per detail.
“We are surprised to see that the Opposition could not find any candidates for contesting in these seats. The Opposition doesn’t have organizational strength and support of the people in the village and that’s why they couldn’t field any candidates,” District Congress Committee President Mr. V.K Abdul Aziz said.
