Port Blair, Feb 06: People of Car Nicobar, including the government servant posted at Car Nicobar are facing petrol or diesel crisis frequently for various reasons. Now the residents of the Island are requesting the Chief Secretary to direct concerned agencies to ensure regular availability of fuel in the remote Island as shortage of fuel adversely hampers all private and government works .
As per reports in January 2022, the people of Car Nicobar witnessed a severe shortage of fuel that even after 150 barrels of petrol and diesel each was delivered to the Islands the desired requirement was not being fulfilled.
Now once again the people of Car Nicobar are witnessing the diesel crisis. A resident of Car Nicobar told Andaman Sheekha daily that the people are now frustrated because of the frequent fuel crisis.
When contacted Mr. Mohammed Amin Moosa, General Manager of Ellon Hinengo Limited told Andaman Sheekha Daily that a dangerous cargo Vessel MV Manav Star with 100 drums of petrol and 45 drums of Diesel will sail today evening for Car Nicobar and after arrival of the vessel there won’t be any crisis.
He added that MV Shakti which has already sailed with 60 drums of diesel and will reach Car Nicobar soon.
The residents of Car Nicobar say that temporary solutions will never bring permanent solutions to this problem. They are now demanding more storage of fuel at Car Nicobar so that a buffer stock is always available for the public.
