Port Blair, Nov 19: National Integration Day was observed today throughout the A&N Islands by organising befitting programmes. To mark the occasion, a function was held at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Auditorium this morning. The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM garlanded the portrait of former Prime Minister of India, Late Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary and paid floral tributes followed by the Chief Secretary, Mr. Anand Prakash, public representatives, senior officers of the Administration, staff and officers of various Govt. departments and members of the public.
A pledge to work with dedication to preserve and strengthen the freedom and integrity of the nation and never to resort to violence and continue to endeavour towards settlement of all differences and disputes relating to religion, language, region or other political or economic grievances by peaceful and constitutional means was also administered by the Lt Governor to all those present in the auditorium. Patriotic songs were sung by teachers of the Education department on the occasion.
