Port Blair, Jan 27: The Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee President Mr. Rangalal Halder on Thursday wrote a letter to the Secretary (Transport) and drew his attention towards the plight of auto drivers of Rangat.
In the letter, Mr. Halder wrote that “due to meter seal, the fitness of vehicles were not done by the RTO authorities of Rangat for the months of November and December, 2021”.
He stated that during the months of November and December, 2021, the RTO office was closed due to COVID-19 pandemic and due to poor internet the auto drivers were unable to upload their vehicle documents.
He asserted that now the RTO Rangat is fining ₹50 per day from auto drivers including the months of November and December, 2021 whereas the RTO Mayabunder is fining ₹50 excluding the months of November and December, 2021.
He questioned that why there are different rules functioning at two places within the same District.
Further, he requested the Secretary (Transport) to look into the matter on priority basis and refund the amount which was collected from the poor auto drivers of Rangat for the months of November and December, 2021.
