Port Blair, Nov 18: Under the ageis of Andaman and Nicobar Command, the Coast Guard Region (A&N) in association with District Administration and Department of Fisheries, conducted ‘Mass Awareness Drive’ as part of Coastal Security Initiative for the fishing community, officials representing the various departments of state viz. Administration, PBMC, APWD, PMB, BSNL, DSS, Health Services, Disaster Management, and representatives of Hotel, Taxi & Auto association, Private Security services on 16 and 17 Dec 12 at various places viz. Diglipur, Wandoor and Haddo at Port Blair. A total of 150 fishermen and 60 officials of State/ Civil Administration participated in the mass awareness drive.
This awareness drive was conducted with an aim to sensitize various stake holders and general populace in run up to prepare for Coastal Security Exercise ‘Tatsuraksha’ TSX -02/12 during 21-23 Nov 12. During the interaction, role and responsibilities of general public, fishing community and various stake holders towards the Coastal Security Mechanism was discussed. The officials of State/ Civil Administration cum service providers were briefed about the method of reporting suspicious activity to Local Police and Coastal Security Agencies.
The opportunity was also utilized to educate fishermen on safety and security aspects while operating at Sea.The importance of toll free SAR No. 1554 and Coastal Security No. 1093 was also highlighted.
