Port Blair, Jan 04: Services of natural vegetations are numerous like releasing oxygen, fixing carbon footprints, therapeutic value, bringing rains, arresting soil erosion, facilitating groundwater recharges, providing shelter to a variety of epiflora, fauna, etc. Yuva Bharat Samaj Seva Charitable Trust (YBSSCT) in collaboration with the Forest department held a tree plantation drive on 03-01-2022 at Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram (VKA), Shadipur, Port Blair. Also, children from Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram participated in this event.
The program began with the worship of Mother Earth by Mr T. Sreehari, Incharge of Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, Shadipur. Two staff from the department of environment and forest guided the gathering for planting the saplings. A broad array of 50 flowering plants were planted in the Ashram premises.
YBSSCT extends heartfelt gratitude to Mr R. Ajay Kumar, Divisional Forest Officer, Forest Extension and publicity Division, Haddo, Port Blair for providing flower saplings. This is a small endeavor by the YBSSCT to inculcate the importance of the environment among the citizens of Port Blair. The initiatives of similar kind will help us to combat against climate change together and are the need of the hour, said Mr K. Lokanadham, Secretary, YBSSCT.
