
Port Blair, Dec 28: A Kabaddi tournament for Men was organized on Sunday at Prothrapur, Ward no. 19 by Phoenix Youth Club, JRB and Seven Bulls Kabaddi team. The event was held to promote sports among youth as also to commemorate the 17th anniversary of devastating tsunami. The tournament was coordinated by Congress leader, Mr. V. Vetri Velu.
The valedictory function was presided over by ANTCC President, Mr. Rangalal Halder, ANTCC Campaign Committee Chairman, Mr TSG Bhasker, Block President, Mr V. Shakti Velu and PYC State General Secretary, Mr Ansab Ahmed.
Addressing the players, Mr Halder said that sports is an integral part of youth’s life without which the mental and physical growth of a person is impossible. He urged upon the youth to actively participate in sports activities and inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship.
Mr Bhasker said sports not only makes youths physically and mentally fit but also helps in keeping them away from drug menace that has become a great threat to the Islands today. He expressed confidence that more teams would participate in the future tournaments and Kabaddi will get its due recognition in the Islands.
The final match was greatly enjoyed by Kabaddi enthusiasts, youngsters and sports persons. The organizers of event thanked all the participating teams and officials for making the tournament a grand success. Mementos, cash prizes and medals were presented to the winner and runner-up teams.
