Port Blair, Nov 11: The Amway Andaman Marathon 2012 scheduled for Sunday the 18th November is all set to go international with six elite runners – 1 male and 1 female from Kenya and 3 male and 1 female from Ethiopia participating in the half marathon. All these runners have impressive past records and participated in the leading Marathon events across the globe. These runners will be joined by some leading runners from Pune and also from the Army, Navy and Police Units from Andaman Islands.
A total of 800 participants have registered this year of which 180 (156 male and 24 female) are participating in the half marathon and 600 in 10K event which consist of 551 male and 49 female.
All arrangements have been finalized by the organizers, Andaman Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Directorate of Youth Affairs and Sports for the flagging off from the Cellular Jail at 5.15 AM by Mr. Anand Prakash, Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Administration and the award function will be held at Netaji Stadium, which is also the concluding point for the raise, where Air Marshal P. K. Roy, AVSM, PVSM, Commander in Chief, Andaman & Nicobar Command will distribute the awards and medals.
Mr. S. B. Deol, Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Mr. William S. Pinckney, Managing Director and country head of M/s. Amway India Limited will also be present in the program.
