
Port Blair, Dec 28: Along with the rest of the country the Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC) celebrated the 137th foundation day of Indian National Congress (INC) on Tuesday at Gandhi Bhavan here. The function was organized under the guidance of ANTCC President, Mr Rangalal Halder and ANTCC Campaign Committee Chairman, MrTSG Bhasker.
The gathering was addressed by ANTCC Vice-President Smt. Shanta Laxman Singh and Seva Dal Chief, Mr Noor Islam. Smt. Shanta Laxman Singh unfurled the party flag in the presence of large number of party workers. The Congressmen paid heartfelt tributes to the party leaders who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
Addressing the party workers and leaders, Smt. Shanta Laxman Singh threw light on the history of Congress party and its achievements towards nation building in the post-independence period. She said that Modi Government has failed to fulfill the electoral promises made during the election campaign of 2014. She further cautioned the people and partymen about the challenges before the party by the communal and divisive forces in the country.
Mr Noor Islam said Congress ideology based on secularism and ‘unity in diversity’ is the only way to keep the country and these Islands strong and united. He highlighted the sufferings being faced by common man, small traders, fishermen and tourism sector in these Islands because of GST and price hike of essential commodities. He urged the partymen to work hard to strengthen the Congress party.
The function concluded with the singing of National Anthem. Sweets were also distributed to the gathering. The function was attended by senior functionaries of PCC, DCC, City Congress, Block Congress and frontal organization’s like Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, Seva Dal, NSUI & INTUC.
