Port Blair, Dec 20: This year, the eve of Christmas and New Year will be celebrated in A&N Islands on midnight of 24th and 31st December, 2021. In view of the directions issued by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India on the control of Noise & Air Pollution during the festive season, general public is hereby informed that only the fire crackers falling into green crackers and improvised crackers shall be used strictly between 11.55 PM to 12.30 AM. Similarly, fire crackers are also not to be used at any time in the areas designated as silence zones i.e, an area at least 100 meter away from hospitals, nursing homes, primary and district health-care centres, educational institutions, courts, religious places or any other area declared as a silence zone by the authorities concerned. General public is also advised to earmark common central places in every locality/area where people could gather and burst fire crackers within the prescribed limits of time i.e. from 11.55 PM to 12.30 AM and permitted noise levels. Any violation in this matter will be dealt promptly as per the law.
These directions are meant for the safety and security of the general public while they enjoy the festival in its gaiety.
