Port Blair, Nov 15: One of the dailies in its issue dated 04.10.2012 has pointed out that despite of laying U.G Cable, the Over Head lines are still in position and U.G. Cables has not been utilized.
It is brought to the notice of general public that even though the work of laying of underground cable have been completed in Port Blair and South Andaman area and in some out station islands by PGCIL, its testing, commissioning and energization are in progress. There is a demand of immediate removal of the over head T&D lines in view of laying of underground cables. It is intimated that removal of overhead power lines immediately on commissioning of UG cable will not be advisable. The departmental Engineers and technicians need some time to acquire expertise in UG cable fault location and its rectification.
The overhead power lines are likely to be kept in position/ operational for about one more year as standby arrangement in the event of UG cable failure. On completion of 100% testing & commissioning of UG cables and its stabilization the same will be removed in a phased manner.
