Port Blair, Dec 10: The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute has released the agromet bulletin for farmers for the period from Dec 11 to Dec 15. In the bulletin, CIARI forecast partly cloudy weather with light rainfall in the next five days in Andaman and in Nicobar Islands. The maximum temperature will be 29.4 to 31.6 oC with minimum temperature of 23.7 to 25.9 oC, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 71 to 81 % and 67 to 77 %, respectively in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 18.7 to 28.0 kmph is expected mostly from North Easterly direction. In South Andaman (Blocks: Prothrapur, Little-Andaman and Ferrargunj), farmers have been advised to place light traps in the rice field to attract and destroy Gundi bug, bean pod borer is observed and for its control apply Neem oil @ 30 ml/lt of water along with teepol @ 0.5 ml/lt, prepare the land by applying 3 ton/ac vermicompost and plant vines of sweet potato at a spacing of 60 X 20 cm, all the recently harvested food grains and stored products may be dried to avoid contamination as the weather is fairly dry, plant hybrid napier @ 9 hills/m2 in plain land and terraces for fodder purpose and do vaccination to all poultry birds against Ranikhet diseases.
