Port Blair, Dec 09: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma in his capacity as a Member of Parliament has introduced a Private Member’s Bill titled The Compulsory Sports & Physical Education and Infrastructure Development in schools of Andaman & Nicobar Islands Bill, 2019 in the Lok Sabha on 3rd December 2021. The intent behind presenting the bill is to mandate free and compulsory sports education from primary to senior secondary level and provide requisite infrastructure in schools.
The young population & school going children of Andaman & Nicobar Islands have tremendous potential to become athletes in the future & bring laurels for the country in national & international events. The inclusion of sports & physical education in schools of Andaman & Nicobar Islands will be a right step in this direction and lay a solid foundation for creating awareness about the importance of sports amongst the school going students. Several countries across the world recognize the importance of blending sports and physical education in the education process. We need to encourage our children to build their character in a spirit of competition, through sports and healthy physical activities, as part of the learning process.
The provisions of the bill will be applicable to every school in Andaman & Nicobar Islands and will be a revolutionary step in creating a healthy and active lifestyle for children by promoting them to access sports facilities in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The Bill is also a right direction in providing holistic development of a child and giving him opportunities to excel through sports.
