Port Blair, Dec 06: ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair conducted a training programme on the value-added fishery products for the Nicobarese traditional community during 1-3 December, 2021 at the Marine Research Laboratory, ICAR-CIARI as a part of the National flagship programme ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. The training was organized under the Chairmanship of Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI under the Scheduled Tribe Component. In his presidential address, Director, ICAR-CIARI emphasized on the importance of value addition in income generation and economic benefits and sensitized the trainees to get maximum benefit out of the training programme.
Both theory and practical aspects on value-added fishery products were covered during the training programme by the team consisting of Ms. Deepitha R.P., Dr. R. Kiruba Sankar, Dr. K. Saravanan, Dr. Nagesh Ram, Mr. J. Praveenraj and Mr. Benny Varghese. Further, hands-on training was given to the participants on development of different value-added fishery products from the low value fishes. The trainees gave positive feedback on the outcome of the training programme and also expressed their willingness to attend further training programmes. Altogether, 20 participants have attended the training programme.
