Port Blair, Dec 06: At the southernmost island territory of Great Nicobar, INS Baaz celebrated Navy Day over a series of events commencing 04 Dec 21. The Navy Day commemorates the definitive and decisive contribution of Indian Navy in the 1971 war against Pakistan which paved the way for India’s victory, in which Karachi military harbour was heavily destroyed and four ships of PN were sunk.
The celebrations commenced with a mini marathon in the morning of 04 Dec itself. Approximately 150 participants from all military components, including GREF, veterans, civilians and children ran the 5km long marathon which culminated inside the air-station. After a lively zumba cool-down session, prizes were distributed to the top three runners of each age group.
The next event in the series of Navy week activities was a painting competition for children organised at INS Baaz on 05 Dec 21. School students of all age groups from CGPS and six Govt schools in the island participated in the event. Their enthusiasm and innovative paintings were praised by one and all. In the subsequent session, live demonstrations of Small Arms/ Meteorological Equipments and Basic Life Support were imparted, which not only inspired them about the services, but also provided insight into medical emergencies.
The week long events will culminate at the Navy Mela scheduled on 11 Dec 21. The Commanding Officer and all ranks of INS Baaz extends a warm invitation to one and all to partake in the upcoming gala mela.
