Port Blair, Nov 11: ICAR-CIARI in collaboration with NABARD, Port Blairorganized three days training on “Cultivation and value addition of cut flowers for entrepreneurship development in A & N Islands” at NamunagarPanchayat hall for the SHG beneficiaries of Surabi NGO during 9 -11 November, 2021. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Manoj, General Manager, NABARD in the presence of Dr. Augustine B. Jerard, HoD, ICAR-CIARI as guest of honour.
A total of 41 SHG members attended the training programme which was organized under the chairmanship of Dr.Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI.
In this training programme cultivation aspects of different commercial flowers were dealt by Course coordinators Dr. V. Baskaran, Dr. K. Abirami, Dr. K. Venkatesan and Dr. T. Subramani. The trainees were given hands on training for preparation of different value-added products like bouquet making, flower arrangements, dry flower card making and use of flower petals for preparation of herbal tea. The marketing opportunities and key strategies for online sale of products were explained in detail by Dr. S. K. Zamir Ahmed, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIARI.
On the final day of the training programme, the participants prepared various value-added products of commercial flowers and were evaluated by team of scientists from ICAR-CIARI and NABARD officials. Based on the scientific techniques learnt and creativity used the value-added products were evaluated and prized were distributed to the winning participants by Father, Simolin, Director, Surabi and Mrs. C. Sumitra AGM, NABARD.
The participants expressed their happiness for the skills attained from the training programme especially with the speciality flowers and requested for a training with long duration. The planting material of marigold and red ginger were distributed to the participants of the training programme for promotion of flower cultivation.
