Shaheed Dweep, Sept 28: As tourism has been reopened in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and ferries are being operated between Shaheed Dweep and Swaraj Dweep, tourists have started visiting these two Islands.
Some tourists who visited Shaheed Dweep recently complained that the jetty area of Shaheed Dweep has only one toilet block, which is attached to the passenger hall but the toilet block has been kept closed and no one in the Jetty premises is in a position to explain why the Toilet block has been kept closed.
Although men go for other options, when they find the toilet block locked but female passengers find it extremely difficult to respond to nature’s call at Jetty area.
When contacted the former Pradhan of Shaheed Dweep Mr. Ramkrishna Biswas told Andaman Sheekha that the Passenger Hall and the toilet block belongs to PMB and he has already taken up the matter with the PMB. “I have been informed that due to delay in issuing tenders the toilet blocks has been kept locked,” Mr. Biswas added.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha daily, a tour operator said that tourists or Islanders who are in urgent need of a Toilet, can only understand the pain of seeing a toilet block locked. “We talk about promoting Andaman Tourism in international level but we fail to provide basic infrastructure like toilet block for tourists,” he said.
