Port Blair, Aug 24: The National Union of Seafarers of India, Andaman and Nicobar Unit is continuing its agitation at the NUSI office.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha over phone this evening Mr. Dharvinder Ram, Branch Representative of NUSI in Andaman today said that NUSI had a meeting with Secretary Shipping and the Matter was discussed.
He claimed that that the Secretary Shipping has assured that employment will be given to surplus crew of mainland sector and inter island sector in vessels but the matter of wage protection is still under consideration and another meeting will be held on coming Friday.
Two of the main demands of NUSI are implementation of approval for employment of Mainland Sector Seafarers whilst decommissioning of MV Nancowry and Secure employment of Mainland Sector permanent seafarers.
The Director of Shipping Services was however not available to comment in this regard even after repeated attempts.
