Port Blair, June 27: A suicide case was reported in Police Station Mayabunder from warden of Mayabunder Sub Jail on 25 June 2021. Immediately a police team reached the Jail and found a convict namely Mr. Gaurav Biswas, 21 years, a resident of Sita Nagar, Diglipur, hanging from ventilator of a cell, with the help of a towel.
The victim was convicted for life imprisonment on 22 April 2021 by Hon’ble Court in a POCSO case, after he was found guilty.
As per source on 24 June 2021 night he committed suicide and on the next day morning other inmates of the Jail noticed the body and informed the warden.
The police team recovered the body and after completing all formalities the body was shifted to RP Hospital. After post mortem the body was handed over to family members. Further investigations are on in this case.
