Port Blair, June 25: People in the age group of 18-44 years are responding enthusiastically to the vaccination drive being conducted in various parts of the Islands. This is evident from the data of vaccinated persons on daily basis, said the Secretary, IP&T, Mr. Sunil Kumar Singh while addressing a COVID-19 media briefing held in the conference hall of IP&T today.
The Secretary further informed that 20 Vaccination Centres are functioning covering the length and breadth of the Islands. He also disclosed that as per the need, the number of Vaccination Centres will be increased. He further stated that COVID cases are coming down and it is good sign.
During the vaccination drive conducted till 5 pm today, 1077 eligible persons were inoculated in South Andaman District, he said. The Secretary informed that during the RTPCR test conducted on 184 passengers who arrived here yesterday, no corona positive cases have been detected.
Today, 3 flights with 338 passengers arrived and their RTPCR reports are awaited. He further disclosed that 120 persons bound for Middle & North Andaman were tested at Ferrargunj and no cases were detected.
The Director ANIIMS, Dr. A.K. Mandal informed that the number of corona positive patients admitted in the G. B Pant Hospital is 13 out of which 9 patients are on Oxygen support and no patient is on ventilator.
The Deputy Director G.B. Pant Hospital, Dr. Amitabha De disclosed that the number of COVID patients admitted in COVID Care Centres in Port Blair area is nil while the number of COVID patients admitted in the COVID Care Centre at Wimberlygunj is 5.
