Port Blair, June 22: The Secretary (IP&T), Mr. Sunil Kumar Singh addressing the media persons on COVID-19 status in the Islands held in the conference hall of IP&T here this evening said that the priority of the Administration is to protect its citizens from corona virus and in this regard, more impetus is being given to vaccinate maximum number of beneficiaries in the age group of 18-44 years.
The best way to deal with the virus is to get oneself vaccinated. Vaccination is an important tool in our hand which can save us from the menace of the virus. He further stated that vaccination drive has gained momentum and is continuing smoothly. The Administration will be receiving more doses of free COVISHIELD vaccine from Govt. of India within this week, he said.
The Secretary said that while the number of COVID patients is coming down in G.B Pant Hospital and COVID Care Centres, we should not be complacent and not put our guards down in our fight against this fatal virus. The Secretary has once again reiterated the need for strictly adhering to COVID-19 protocol and urged the people to follow COVID appropriate behavior and COVID protocols for their own safety, safety of their family members and the society at large.
He further disclosed that during the RT-PCR conducted on 300 incoming passengers who arrived here yesterday by flight, 2 positive cases have been detected despite carrying RT-PCR report from mainland. He further informed that 3 flights with 297 passengers arrived today and the RT-PCR reports are awaited. He also stated that during the RAT conducted on 365 passengers proceeding to N&M Andaman at Ferrargunj, 1 positive case has been detected. He said, that today till 4 pm, 783 beneficiaries were vaccinated in South Andaman District, out of which, 780 were in the age group of 18-44 and the rest were above 45 plus age group.
The Director, ANIIMS, Dr. AK Mandal disclosed that the 14 COVID positive patients are presently undergoing treatment in the G.B Pant Hospital. Today, 1 COVID patients was discharged and 3 new COVID patients were admitted. Out of the 14 patients, 10 patients are on Oxygen support and no patient on ventilator, he informed.
The Deputy Director, G.B Pant Hospital, Dr. Amitabha De disclosed that in the three COVID Care Centres functioning in Port Blair, 2 patients were discharged. Altogether, 4 patients are presently being taken care of in these three COVID Care Centres, he mentioned.
